We Moved to Our Own Dedicated Server — Plus Smarter Bot & Fake Server Detection

TL;DR: Counter-Strike-Boost has moved to our own dedicated server, running on infrastructure we build and manage ourselves. The migration is complete and everything is running smoothly — no data was lost, no action is needed from you. On top of that, we have rolled out a new generation of bot detection and, for the first time, fake server detection that catches servers inflating their player counts.

A new home: our own dedicated server

Until now, CS-Boost ran on hosting we rented and only partly controlled. That was fine when the site was small. It stopped being fine as the server list, the voting system, and VPBoost grew.

So we moved. Counter-Strike-Boost now runs on dedicated hardware that belongs to us, on top of an orchestration platform we set up and operate in-house. In plain terms: we own the machine, we own the setup, and nobody else's workload shares it with us.

The migration went smoothly. Everything came across intact:

  • Your account, your votes, your ranking — all preserved exactly as they were.
  • Server listings, crowns, seasonal medals, achievements — untouched.
  • VPBoost configurations and redirects — no reconfiguration needed on your side.
  • Same URLs, same links — nothing you bookmarked or embedded has changed.

There is genuinely nothing you need to do.

What you should notice

  • Faster pages. The site and the server list load noticeably quicker.
  • Faster server queries. Player counts and server status refresh more responsively.
  • Better uptime. We can now recover from problems in minutes instead of waiting on someone else's support queue.
  • Room to grow. We have real headroom for the features we have been holding back.

Smarter bot detection

Vote manipulation has been the single most common complaint we receive from honest server owners, and they are right to complain. A ranking is only worth something if the votes behind it are real.

We have deployed a new generation of detection that changes how we look at the problem. The short version: instead of judging each vote in isolation, our systems now build a picture of behaviour over time and flag the patterns that real players simply do not produce. Automated voting that used to slip through does not slip through anymore.

We are deliberately not publishing the details of how this works. Every specific we release is a specific someone tunes their bots around. What we will say is this: it is already running, it is already catching things, and it keeps learning.

Fake server detection

This is new, and we think it matters just as much.

Some servers report player counts that are not real — padded with fake or idle connections to look busier than they are, so they climb the list and pull in genuine players who arrive to find an empty server. It wastes your time and it punishes the owners who play fair.

Our new detection compares what a server claims against independent signals we gather ourselves. When those two things do not line up, we know. Servers found inflating their numbers lose their ranking advantage, and repeat offenders are removed from the list entirely.

Again, no specifics — but the checks are running across the whole list continuously, not just on servers people report.

Our position on fair play

We would rather have a smaller list that players can trust than a bigger one they cannot. Boosting your server on CS-Boost should mean building a community worth joining, not gaming a counter.

If you run an honest server, these changes work for you: less noise above you in the ranking, and players who trust the numbers they see. If you believe your server was flagged in error, contact us and a human will review it — automated detection is not the final word.

What's next

With the move behind us and the platform in our own hands, we can finally ship the things that were waiting on infrastructure. More on that soon.

Thanks for sticking with us — and to everyone who reported suspicious servers and votes, thank you. It made a difference.
